Your Baku City Tour begins at Icheri Sheher (Old City), the ancient heart of Baku. Through the Double Gates (also known as the Shamakhi Gate), you’ll step into a medieval world of cobbled streets, ancient walls, and historical monuments.
Baku was declared the capital of Azerbaijan in the 13th century after a powerful earthquake destroyed Shamakhi. The Shirvanshah dynasty moved their capital to Baku, shaping it into a significant cultural and trade center.
Here, you'll explore during Old City Baku Tour:
Standing tall within the Old City, the Maiden Tower is one of Baku’s most recognized landmarks. Originally constructed in the 6th century BC as a fire worshippers’ temple and later completed in the 12th century, it served defensive and ceremonial purposes.🟢 Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001, along with the Shirvanshahs’ Palace.
During the sightseeing tour of Baku, our next destination is the Shirvanshahs’ Palace Complex - a key highlight of any Baku sightseeing tour. Built after the capital moved from Shamakhi, this majestic complex includes:
Located on Istiglaliyyat Street, this Gothic-style palace was commissioned by millionaire Musa Naghiyev in memory of his son. Designed by architect Josef Ploska, the building was inspired by European Gothic cathedrals and took 5 years to complete. Today, it houses the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences.
As part of the sightseeing of Baku, enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Fountain Square, one of the city's most popular gathering spots. As part of the Baku walking tour, stroll along Nizami Street, a vibrant shopping and pedestrian zone named after the poet Nizami Ganjavi.
Conclude your Tour of Baku City at the scenic Baku Boulevard, stretching along the Caspian Sea since 1909.
Enjoy a Boat Tour, relax by the water, or visit modern malls like Daniz Mall and Park Boulevard Mall for some evening shopping.
