Beshbarmag – Candy Cane Khizi Mountains Tour

Experience a thrilling Beshbarmag tour from Baku combined with the breathtaking Khizi mountain hiking tour - a full day of climbing, walking, and exploring two of Azerbaijan’s most stunning and unique landscapes. This tour is for extreme lovers and for those who don’t tire from hiking, jumping, or climbing through rugged and colorful terrain. Whether you love hiking or simply enjoy outdoor adventures, this is a must-do experience among hiking tours in Azerbaijan.

The tour begins with pick-up from your hotel or any preferred location in Baku. Get ready for a day trip to Candy Cane Mountains and Beshbarmag – two strikingly different natural wonders of Azerbaijan.

📍 Beshbarmag Mountain - Mythical Rock of the Caspian

Located in the Siazan District, Beshbarmag Mountain (meaning "Five Finger") is a massive rock formation rising 382 meters above sea level, overlooking the Baku–Quba Highway. This ancient geological structure is one of the most famous spiritual landmarks in the Caucasus.

Known for its mystical legends, Beshbarmag is a sacred pilgrimage site visited regularly by locals and travelers. If you’re looking for hiking tours in Azerbaijan that combine spiritual heritage with raw nature, this is the perfect choice.

Tide marks found on the rock indicate historical meltwater floods dating back to the end of the last ice age. These ancient markings support the Holocene meltwater theory and suggest that the Caspian Sea’s level once rose by 20–30 meters.

📍 Khizi Mountains – Azerbaijan’s Candy Cane Surprise

Your Khizi Mountain tour begins as you head northwest from the Caspian lowlands into a world of color and contrast. Located in the Khizi District, this region features a dramatic shift from dry steppe to striped, mineral-rich hills known as the Candy Cane Mountains — a true geological gem.

These colorful mountains of Azerbaijan, with their pink, red, and white bands, are the result of groundwater altering iron compounds over millions of years. The effect is stunning and otherworldly, drawing photographers and hikers from all over the world.

About 10 km west of Khizi town lies Alti Agach and the lush forests of Altyaghach National Park. This combination of striped hills and green valleys makes Khizi one of the most colorful mountains of Azerbaijan, and a highlight of any day trip to Candy Cane Mountains

The nickname "Candy Cane Mountains" was coined by travel writer Mark Elliott in his guidebook Azerbaijan with Excursions to Georgia.

Note: This tour involves moderate hiking and climbing. However, if you prefer a more relaxed itinerary with minimal walking, we can fully customize the tour to suit your comfort level.

Outstanding colors at Candy Cane hills

We took a private tour to the amazingly beautiful colorful "Candy cane" hills and the unusual shaped Beshbarmag mountain. Both are on the road going north along the Caspian sea. Both stops on the tour were beautiful and as we took a private tour with a great guide and driver we could stop at multiple stops in the Candy cane region and took many beautiful pictures of the amazing colors.

Great experience

We had the most wonderful experience with this tour. Beshbarmag mountain was very nice on top and Candy Cane mountain was very unique and amazing. Everything we asked for from Guided Azerbaijan were provided. Lamia had been very helpful and accommodating and gave us the best customer service experience. Our guide, Nurlan, was also very good and knowledgeable. We highly recommend Guided Azerbaijan if you want to have a wonderful tour experience.
