Guba & Khinalig Tour

Experience an unforgettable escape from the city on this Guba Khinalig day trip from Baku, where nature, culture, and history meet. Located just a 2.5-hour drive from the capital, Guba is one of the top destinations for travelers seeking a mix of scenic landscapes and authentic local traditions.

From the lush forests of Gachrash to the UNESCO-listed mountain village of Khinalig, this tour is perfect for those who want to discover Azerbaijan’s hidden gems in the north. The journey includes Jewish heritage sites, breathtaking viewpoints, and even a chance to witness the ancient art of carpet weaving.

Your private tour begins with hotel pickup in Baku by a professional driver and continues through Azerbaijan’s picturesque northeastern highlands.

πŸ“ Gachrash Forest – The Lush Heart of Northern Azerbaijan

The first stop on your Guba tour from Baku is Gachrash Forest, one of the most beautiful and mysterious natural areas in Azerbaijan. Known for its cool climate and tall, dense trees, this forest is a popular destination for nature tours from Baku, especially during summer when the shade and mountain breeze offer the perfect escape from the heat.

Walking along its shaded paths feels magical — a true highlight for photographers and nature lovers. This region is often searched as “Gachrash forest Azerbaijan” or “scenic forest tour Guba”.

πŸ“ Mastargah Waterfall – A Hidden Natural Wonder

Next, your Guba journey continues toward Mastargah, home to a charming, lesser-known waterfall. This peaceful spot is often overlooked in standard itineraries, making it perfect for those seeking hidden nature spots in Azerbaijan. The Mastargah Waterfall, tucked away in the Guba mountains, is ideal for a short photo stop and peaceful break.

Adding this stop makes your mountain tour from Baku even more special, offering an off-the-beaten-path adventure into Guba’s untouched landscapes.

πŸ“ Khinalig Village – Ancient Mountain Life at 2,300 Meters

Your next stop for Guba day trip is the Khinalig Village, one of the oldest and highest-altitude settlements in the Caucasus. This UNESCO-protected mountain village sits over 2,300 meters above sea level and is one of the most searched destinations for “Khinalig village tour” in Azerbaijan.

What makes Khinalig special is not just the location, but its people — an isolated ethnic group speaking their own unique language. The architecture is just as unique: the homes are stacked amphitheater-style on steep mountain slopes. If you’re looking for a mountain village Azerbaijan experience, Khinalig is an unforgettable highlight.

πŸ“ Red Village (Krasnaya Sloboda) – Jewish Heritage in the Caucasus

After visiting Khinalig, your Guba tour continues with a visit to Red Village (Krasnaya Sloboda), known as the only all-Jewish settlement in the post-Soviet space. Often called the “village of millionaires,” it’s home to the Mountain Jews of Azerbaijan, many of whom now live abroad but maintain deep ties to this unique community.

The Red Village Guba experience is perfect for travelers interested in Jewish heritage tours in Azerbaijan. You’ll see synagogues, historic homes, and learn about the close-knit traditions of this ancient group.

πŸ“ Gadim Guba Carpet Factory – Handmade Craftsmanship in Action

Before heading back to Baku, stop at the Gadim Guba Carpet Factory (translated as “Old Guba”). Here, local women weave stunning handmade carpets in Azerbaijan using centuries-old techniques. Each piece takes 5–6 months to complete and showcases Guba’s famous patterns, which are highly valued around the world.

You can watch the process firsthand and even order a custom-made carpet, a perfect souvenir from your trip. This stop is often included in “cultural experience tour Azerbaijan” and is one of the best ways to support local artisans.

This is more than a tour - it’s a full cultural immersion into one of Azerbaijan’s most authentic and photogenic regions, covering the top places to visit in Guba. Whether you’re exploring ancient mountain villages or relaxing in forested canyons, this experience includes the very best things to do in Guba, Azerbaijan. Our Guba – Khinalig tour is fully customizable to suit your travel preferences — from relaxed nature stops to deep cultural immersion.

Highly highly recommended tour!!

If you want to savor the true beauty of the Caucasus Mountains, you have to include this tour in your itinerary. We were awestruck by the beauty of the Caucasus surrounding the village Khinalig. The serpentine road leading towards the village alone is gonna take your breath away. The other highlight of the trip was a visit to the Synagogue. Our guide explained how one can see the Mosque from standing in front of the Synagogue from one side of the river and at the same time the Synagogue can be seen from the other side of the river if you stand in front of the Mosque. That symbolizes the unity and tolerance of Azerbaijani culture. That really moved me! In today’s world we need such qualities to be imbibed in cultures. We also visited the winter Synagogue and we received a very warm welcome. Our hearts were really filled with gratitude after this tour. A huge shoutout to the people behind making this a successful trip. Fuad, who arranged our preferred driver and guide although I confirmed him about the tour really late at night. Our driver Djavid was really professional and very polite. Last but not the least, our amazing guide Elsevar. I highly recommend Guided Azerbaijan! Sum R January 9, 2020

Stunning scenery with great guide

Prior to going on this tour, the communication with Guided Azerbaijan was excellent and they were very helpful with organising it. The tour itself was fantastic. Never dull and provided with plenty of background information. Started with a 2 hour drive to Quba with a visit to the red town, carpet factory and a mosque. The red town is architecturally fascinating whilst seeing the work and dedication carried out in the carpet factory was also very interesting. This was followed by an absolutely astonishing drive to Khinalig. The pictures provided by others look fantastic, but they still do not do it justice. Khinalig itself is a beautifully set village. On the way back we had delicious Qutabs in the forest. Elnara, our guide, was great throughout. Knowledgeable, friendly and ensured that we were comfortable and happy throughout. We were asked if we wanted to stop at places on the way, and Elnara arranged tea with one of the local farmers in Khinalig which was an unforgettable experience. Whilst a long day, it goes quickly. Highly recommended! Stumodernart September 20, 2022
