Experience an unforgettable escape from the city on this Guba – Khinalig day trip from Baku, where nature, culture, and history meet. Located just a 2.5-hour drive from the capital, Guba is one of the top destinations for travelers seeking a mix of scenic landscapes and authentic local traditions.
From the lush forests of Gachrash to the UNESCO-listed mountain village of Khinalig, this tour is perfect for those who want to discover Azerbaijan’s hidden gems in the north. The journey includes Jewish heritage sites, breathtaking viewpoints, and even a chance to witness the ancient art of carpet weaving.
Your private tour begins with hotel pickup in Baku by a professional driver and continues through Azerbaijan’s picturesque northeastern highlands.
The first stop on your Guba tour from Baku is Gachrash Forest, one of the most beautiful and mysterious natural areas in Azerbaijan. Known for its cool climate and tall, dense trees, this forest is a popular destination for nature tours from Baku, especially during summer when the shade and mountain breeze offer the perfect escape from the heat.
Walking along its shaded paths feels magical — a true highlight for photographers and nature lovers. This region is often searched as “Gachrash forest Azerbaijan” or “scenic forest tour Guba”.
Next, your Guba journey continues toward Mastargah, home to a charming, lesser-known waterfall. This peaceful spot is often overlooked in standard itineraries, making it perfect for those seeking hidden nature spots in Azerbaijan. The Mastargah Waterfall, tucked away in the Guba mountains, is ideal for a short photo stop and peaceful break.
Adding this stop makes your mountain tour from Baku even more special, offering an off-the-beaten-path adventure into Guba’s untouched landscapes.
Your next stop for Guba day trip is the Khinalig Village, one of the oldest and highest-altitude settlements in the Caucasus. This UNESCO-protected mountain village sits over 2,300 meters above sea level and is one of the most searched destinations for “Khinalig village tour” in Azerbaijan.
What makes Khinalig special is not just the location, but its people — an isolated ethnic group speaking their own unique language. The architecture is just as unique: the homes are stacked amphitheater-style on steep mountain slopes. If you’re looking for a mountain village Azerbaijan experience, Khinalig is an unforgettable highlight.
After visiting Khinalig, your Guba tour continues with a visit to Red Village (Krasnaya Sloboda), known as the only all-Jewish settlement in the post-Soviet space. Often called the “village of millionaires,” it’s home to the Mountain Jews of Azerbaijan, many of whom now live abroad but maintain deep ties to this unique community.
The Red Village Guba experience is perfect for travelers interested in Jewish heritage tours in Azerbaijan. You’ll see synagogues, historic homes, and learn about the close-knit traditions of this ancient group.
Before heading back to Baku, stop at the Gadim Guba Carpet Factory (translated as “Old Guba”). Here, local women weave stunning handmade carpets in Azerbaijan using centuries-old techniques. Each piece takes 5–6 months to complete and showcases Guba’s famous patterns, which are highly valued around the world.
You can watch the process firsthand and even order a custom-made carpet, a perfect souvenir from your trip. This stop is often included in “cultural experience tour Azerbaijan” and is one of the best ways to support local artisans.
This is more than a tour - it’s a full cultural immersion into one of Azerbaijan’s most authentic and photogenic regions, covering the top places to visit in Guba. Whether you’re exploring ancient mountain villages or relaxing in forested canyons, this experience includes the very best things to do in Guba, Azerbaijan. Enjoyed our tour with Nurlan as our guide and Jamal as our driver. We learned a lot about the country and the area we visited. Jamal did a great job driving up to Khinalig and back. One drawback was that the back windows of the car were heavily tinted. Difficult to see the scenery without rolling down the windows which were manual and not easy to roll. In Khinalig, we climbed up to the top of the hill with the cell tower — great views, but the guide should have stayed near us as we climbed up and down since both of us are in our 70s. Enjoyed seeing the mosque and Jewish area of Guba. We elected not to go to the Genocide Memorial as it was getting late in the day. Lynne H July 4, 2023
It was a wonderful place to visit and the village is the highest residential area in azerbaijan. The route to get there is just so scenic surrounded by picturesque mountains. Thanks Lamia from Guided Azerbaijan for suggesting me this place to visit and organising my trip. It was quite an interesting experience!! Roshan M August 17, 2023
We had a private family full day Guba and Khinalig tour organised by Guided Azerbaijan. The driver and guide arrived on time to our hotel. The minivan was nice, clean and comfortable. We saw many interesting sights such as Khinalig Village 2350m, Qacrash forest, Juma mosque, Carpet Weaving factory, Guba Memorial Complex and Red Village - Jewish Settlement. Thanks for organising this great tour! I really recommend the tour with Guided Azerbaijan! Monika72 August 26, 2023
Nice trip. Majestic landscapes of Caucasus! The Khinalig village left very dual feeling of being unique place but very neglected one... Thank you Guided Azerbaijan for patience arranging and rearranging our trip! Due to some reasons our schedule changed several times, but the guys managed to rearrange things even the very last minute. Inga B October 31, 2023
We had booked a weeklong trip with Guided Azerbaijan and planned several excursions with them. We had particularly outstanding service from Lamia in planning our trip and with our driver, Tahir, who was with us the entire time. While we did not do this exact tour outlined here, we instead planned a customized half day trip to Quba and to the beautiful Candy Cane Mountains. Unfortunately, our guide became sick, but we could still go ahead with the driver, who was so helpful, and Guided Azerbaijan was very responsive and refunded the cost of the guide. We had an especially fun time visiting the carpet making center. We were shown how the carpets are made and allowed to try ourselves. We did not leave without making a purchase of a stunning silk rug that we will cherish.
