Your Shamakhi – Lahij day trip starts with pickup from your hotel or any preferred location.
The first stop on the Shamakhi – Lahij tour is the Diri Baba Mausoleum, built in 1402 for a holy figure and still visited by locals as a pilgrimage site. Located just across from an old cemetery, this mystic monument is surrounded by legends and spiritual stories passed down for centuries.
The private Shamakhi Lahij tour continues with a visit to the Shamakhi Juma Mosque, the oldest mosque in the Caucasus, originally built in 743. As one of the most iconic religious landmarks in Azerbaijan, it is a highlight of any Shamakhi sightseeing tour.
Next, explore the Seven Domes (Yeddi Gumbez) mausoleum built in the 17th century for members of the Shamakhi khanate family. Situated on a hilltop, this site offers panoramic views and insight into medieval funerary architecture.
🕌 Historic Shamakhi City
Shamakhi is one of the oldest cities in Azerbaijan, dating back to the 5th century BC. In the Middle Ages, it served as the capital of the Shirvanshahs and was considered one of the most important cities in the East. The city is home to the largest astrophysical observatory in the Caucasus and offers a unique combination of nature, culture, and ancient monuments — making it a must-see stop on any day trip from Baku.
The next destination of the Shamakhi – Lahij day trip is Lahij Village, located in the Ismailli region. This is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Azerbaijan, famous for its preserved original architecture and traditional lifestyle. Lahij is included in UNESCO's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity due to its historical significance as a hub for handicrafts and copper work.
The village is best known for its handmade copperware, each piece crafted in small copper workshops in Lahij using traditional techniques. Visitors can explore these workshops and witness artisans in action. Lahij is widely recognized as the most authentic handicraft village in Azerbaijan. With a history dating back to the 3rd–4th centuries, Lahij also boasts ancient water and sewage systems that are over 1,000 years old - a rare sight in the Caucasus.
This full-day Azerbaijan excursion is perfect for those seeking a combination of Azerbaijani history, Islamic heritage, UNESCO sites, and traditional craftsmanship. Whether you’re on a private tour from Baku or part of a small group, we ensure a comfortable, informative, and enriching experience.

We started with our day with Orkan at 09:00am. It was good timing to start a wonderful day. We drove along the way and first stop it was in a market to get some snacks for the day trip. We visited to Diribaba Mausoleum. It was one of the historical sites, which i vsited before - had long stairs to reach to up. From the top of the building you can see the all village. Then we went to Mosque. it belongs to 743 and renovated so new. All places where i visited, was very clean and tidy. I loved it a lot. Then we drove 1 hour and reach to Lahij. Lahij has a lot of handcraft shops. My guide informed me, they have nice spices for buy. I bough zangefil from there, I hope when I use it it will be usefull hhhhhhh. We did our lunch also in Lahij village in one cafe. It was good. It ancient village. Highly recommended to the history lovers and for bloggers.
Took full day tour to Lahij through amazing mountains panorama! Tour itinerary was arranged very well and adjusted a bit to my preferences as was private tour. Especially was interesting to see Shamakhi chemistry! Had few stops by my request to buy local fruits and food. Guide and driver were very professional. Guide had full information about all visited places and also explained about culture, cuisine, traditions, etc. I would definatelly recommend it for long day trip.
