Embark on a full-day Shamakhi – Lahij tour from Baku, combining two of Azerbaijan’s most culturally and historically rich destinations. Discover ancient mosques, mausoleums, and UNESCO-listed villages in Azerbaijan that reflect the spirit of the Caucasus. Ideal for travelers interested in history, architecture, traditional crafts, and scenic landscapes.
Your Shamakhi – Lahij day trip starts with pickup from your hotel or any preferred location.
The first stop on the Shamakhi – Lahij tour is the Diri Baba Mausoleum, built in 1402 for a holy figure and still visited by locals as a pilgrimage site. Located just across from an old cemetery, this mystic monument is surrounded by legends and spiritual stories passed down for centuries.
The private Shamakhi Lahij tour continues with a visit to the Shamakhi Juma Mosque, the oldest mosque in the Caucasus, originally built in 743. As one of the most iconic religious landmarks in Azerbaijan, it is a highlight of any Shamakhi sightseeing tour.
Next, explore the Seven Domes (Yeddi Gumbez) mausoleum built in the 17th century for members of the Shamakhi khanate family. Situated on a hilltop, this site offers panoramic views and insight into medieval funerary architecture.
🕌 Historic Shamakhi City
Shamakhi is one of the oldest cities in Azerbaijan, dating back to the 5th century BC. In the Middle Ages, it served as the capital of the Shirvanshahs and was considered one of the most important cities in the East. The city is home to the largest astrophysical observatory in the Caucasus and offers a unique combination of nature, culture, and ancient monuments — making it a must-see stop on any day trip from Baku.
The next destination of the Shamakhi – Lahij day trip is Lahij Village, located in the Ismailli region. This is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Azerbaijan, famous for its preserved original architecture and traditional lifestyle. Lahij is included in UNESCO's List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity due to its historical significance as a hub for handicrafts and copper work.
The village is best known for its handmade copperware, each piece crafted in small copper workshops in Lahij using traditional techniques. Visitors can explore these workshops and witness artisans in action. Lahij is widely recognized as the most authentic handicraft village in Azerbaijan. With a history dating back to the 3rd–4th centuries, Lahij also boasts ancient water and sewage systems that are over 1,000 years old - a rare sight in the Caucasus.
This full-day Azerbaijan excursion is perfect for those seeking a combination of Azerbaijani history, Islamic heritage, UNESCO sites, and traditional craftsmanship. Whether you’re on a private tour from Baku or part of a small group, we ensure a comfortable, informative, and enriching experience.

We had a great tour that showed us a glimpse of the more traditional side of this beautiful country. Our driver, Arif, and our guide, Tahir, were super professional.
Tour was absolutely amazing and it exceeded our expectations. We saw so many various things in only a few hours: be it nature, tombs, winery, mosque … our tour guide was very educated and he was ready to adjust the intenary based on our wishes. We also visited the Meysari Winery for a private wine tasting in their wine cellars and stop on the way for truly local lunch experience in the middle of nowhere. Lastly, everything was perfectly organized. Thank you Lamia for making this possible. ❤️
I didn’t have much time in Azerbaijan, and this tour was the perfect day trip from Baku to give me a flavor of the mountains and village life. Lahij is a very interesting town of craftspeople, and the drive there was gorgeous. But perhaps the best part of this excursion was the dynamic brother duo of Tahir (guide) and Elmin (driver)! 🇦🇿♥️ I learned a lot about Azerbaijan’s history and culture from them, and they took me to an incredible roadside eating place where a really friendly husband and wife served up delicious qutab and wild blackberry jam for desert 😋. I highly recommend this tour!
I’m in love this small city in top of the mountains , the simple lifestyle and the friendly locals. The view of the magical mountains while driving to the city was also incredible. We were lucky to see the rainbow on our way back. Ms. Senuber, the tour guide and Mr. Kamron, the driver who been accompanying me were so friendly and made my whole trip awesome. The tour was arranged by Guided Azerbaijan tour company.
We had booked our all tours in Azerbaizan with Guided Azerbaijan and Ms. Lamia had arranged everything as per our requirement. Mr Fouad was our driver throughout. We had a wonderful time there, without worrying about the arrangement once we reached Azerbaizan. They were very professional yet very warm and welcoming.
